Relationship Tips For Couples With Different Work Schedules

It’s only natural that most couples will have different work schedules and for some, this creates challenges within the relationship.

Common challenges are finding time for intimacy and sex, finding time to share meals and finding time to be together as a family if you have children. As hard as it is though, it’s important that couples prioritise quality time together. Here’s some tips on how to navigate your way around different work schedules:

Schedule quality time together

Even with the different work schedules and often busy life, quality time HAS to take priority. Find a spot in both your calendars where you can put away phones, put away work, and just BE together. This is absolutely essential and scheduling it in will ensure that it happens!

Communicate and share upcoming commitments

With busy careers, not to mention random work hours, we can become super busy and distracted as individuals. To avoid disappointment and unmet expectations, communicate in advance when you both have work commitments (meetings, trips away etc). When we communicate this with our partner, we can then plan ahead and schedule in time with friends when our partner is at work. Planning ahead is absolutely essential if you are both busy!

Make the most of time alone

Healthy relationships are actually a product of two people coming together who feel whole and who love themselves first. So, make the most of the time that your partner is at work and if you have time without them, take yourself on a date and spoil yourself, solo! The relationship we have with ourselves is so important and the advantage of having different work schedules is that you get more of an opportunity to have time to yourself.

Go away on holidays together

If you find that you barely see each other in daily life, schedule in a holiday together so that you get an extended amount of time to do absolutely nothing in each other’s company. Holidays are such a great way to unwind and connect, and often have a positive impact on sex lives! So, make sure you schedule in annual leave together so that you can at least get a weekend away in together, or if you’re lucky, a couple of weeks away on an island!
